It refers to the process of editing a photo to create an exaggerated, glamorous, and heavily filtered version of the original image. The term combines “yass” (an enthusiastic way of saying “yes”) with the suffix “-ification.”
Key characteristics of yassification include:
- Heavy use of beauty filters
- Excessive smoothing of skin
- Enhanced features (bigger lips, dramatic eyes)
- Extreme face tuning
- Unnaturally perfect appearance
- Often appears obviously edited or artificial
Common examples include:
- Taking photos of celebrities and editing them to look extremely filtered
- Applying beauty filters to unexpected subjects (like buildings, art, or historical figures)
- Making things look stereotypically “Instagram-ready”
The term is often used ironically or humorously, poking fun at the prevalence of heavily filtered images on social media. People might say something has been “yassified” when it’s been transformed into an overly glamorous, filtered version of itself. The word is also sometimes used metaphorically to describe making anything more dramatic or stereotypically glamorous, even outside of photo editing.
